Hand in Hand EA Kenya

Exciting news! Monday 14th October 2024 marked a monumental milestone for Hand in Hand Eastern Africa as we announce the signing of a significant grant agreement with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), represented by the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi, with contributions from Hand in Hand Sweden. This grant is dedicated to the implementation of the Building Inclusive and Resilient Enterprises (BIRE) project, running from October 2024 to October 2028.
The BIRE project is a transformative initiative aiming to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods in select counties in Kenya. By supporting the development of profitable and sustainable enterprises, the project focuses on empowering marginalized women, youth, and vulnerable men. A total of 29,740 direct project participants are set to benefit, with the establishment of 20,818 viable enterprises, creating 31,227 jobs. The auspicious occasion of the grant signing was attended by the HiH EA leadership team, led by CEO Albert Wambugu, Chief Finance Officer Daniel Mwaniki, Catherine Owinyi, Head of Strategy and Resource Mobilization, and Japheth Muli, Chief Programs Manager. From the Embassy of Sweden, we were honored to have Annika Otterstedt, Head of the Kenya Development Section, and Martin Murithi, Programme Manager for Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihoods.
We eagerly anticipate the profound impact this grant will have on the lives of those we serve. Together, we are committed to building a brighter and more inclusive future.
