Project Description

HiH EA was one of the eight beneficiaries of the Post Code Lottery Sweden human rights funded project in 2012 through HiH Sweden. HiHEA in partnership with Clowns Without Borders(CWB) are implementing the 2.5 years human rights project to young and vulnerable teenage mothers in Kenya known as the young mothers project.

The project strive to unleash the business potential  of women through Increasing Gender equality and women empowerment hence creations of enterprises and jobs  for improved  incomes.This will eventually help to achieve  the MDGs goal of Eradicating extreme poverty & hunger.

Who are young mothers?

Women with children between 13-30 years old whom are vulnerable due to young motherhood characterised by Participate in social vices

 Major breadwinners of their families.

 Make their living by begging, doing casual jobs, or operating very small enterprises

 Have low literacy levels

 They lack skills

The Approach

The project is anchored on the current existing HiH EA training program and include:

 Social mobilization : formation of support groups

Rehabilitation of young poor mothers through psycho-social support programs.

HiH and CWB will work with other like -minded partners to deliver the support activities

Social economic empowerment through training on Entrepreneurship and special skills for economic freedom will also be trained.

Expected Outcomes

To liberate mental power within the young mothers inspiring them ,giving them hope and aspirations therefore strengthening them to build up their lives.

To make them see possibilities and opportunities that gives them strength ,courage and hope to change their lives freeing their minds by supporting them get out of self pity and oppressive social cultural practices giving back their dignity and self ego.

Enable them understand and know their human & Constitutional rights as women.

Hand in Hand Eastern Africa women entrepreneurs are featured here. These are women who earlier had no source of income but after HiH EA intervention, they cannot hide their joy in sharing the sweet success of the entrepreneurial training.
