HiH Eastern Africa’s History

Hand in Hand Eastern Africa began its operations in Kenya in October 2010 and went on to roll out its outreach and promotion programme in April 2011. By December 2017, HiH EA was operating in 21 field offices within 27 out of 47 Counties in Kenya namely Embu, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Nairobi, Kiambu, Murangá, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nakuru, Bomet, Homa Bay, Migori, Busia, Siaya, Nyandarua, Baringo, Laikipia, Kericho, Narok, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kisii, Nyamira, Bungoma, Taita Taveta, Meru and Kitui.

HiH EA is an NGO which relies on donor funding. Its strategic support comes from Hand in Hand International and Hand in Hand Sweden which are central to fundraising and coordination within the Hand in Hand Network. The Embassy of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) has been a key donor since HiH EA’s inception. Other donors include IKEA Foundation, Läkarmissionen, Swedish Post Code Lottery, Gunvor, Swiss Re, Johnson & Johnson Corporate Citizenship Trust, Hilti Foundation, Kiva International, Safaricom Foundation plus a group of 11 smaller-sized corporate and individual contributors who support the HiH EA Village and Community Uplift Programs (VUPs).

We continue to be accountable and transparent in executing our mandate and we ensure value for money through the creation of sustainable enterprises and jobs.
